The victim had multiple surgeries, and investigators need the public’s help to identify the two suspects who sent him to the hospital.

The fight happened at ‘The Pen’ in at Safeco Field on Military Appreciation Day.  That’s an area where people go to drink and watch the game.

“I’ve heard different versions of it, that there was some argument over a table, who was going to have a table, a beer was thrown,” said Sgt. Cindi West of the King County Sheriff’s Office.  “But either way, there’s no excuse for literally beating somebody to the point where their face is multiply fractured over a table or anything else,” she added.

Investigators said the main suspect, who is wanted for felony assault, is in his 40s.  He wore a shiny dark blue ‘Under Armor’ brand sweatshirt, tan shorts, and black sneakers.

The second suspect is thinner, and appears to be in his late 30s to early 40s. He wore a black satin Raiders jacket.  Detectives said he was the “mouthy” one.

Detectives hope someone took video or pictures of the fight, and want to hear from anyone who did.

“We’ve received a couple tips that one or both of these individuals may be connected to the City of Everett, and/or they may have ties to women’s softball.  Specifically, college level softball,” West said.  “So we’re hoping that someone will recognize them and pick up the phone and call us.”

Surveillance video showed the man walking into the business with a backpack.  Once he reached the counter, he pulled a semi-automatic pistol out of the bag with a latex gloved hand, and demanded money from the clerk.

“This is not his first rodeo so to speak,” said retired detective Myrle Carner.  “This guy’s probably been out there doing a lot of these things wearing the latex gloves, carrying a very serious looking weapon.  We’re very fortunate someone didn’t get killed in this case.”

The man took of north from the store on 16th Ave. S.W. and then west on Cambridge.

Pat Cress was the third of four children and the families oldest boy. He was only 13 years old when he was murdered. Detective Mike Mellis with the King County Sheriff’s Office  is the lead on this case and said, “On  Friday night, April 30^th, 1983, Pat asked if he could spend the night at a friend’s house. That friend lived about 500 yards north of where we’re standing right now.” Dick Cress adds, “We gave him permission to spend the night. He said, ‘great,’ grabbed a couple of things took off out the patio door, slammed it shut like he usually did and that was the last we saw of him.  Not the last we heard from him, but the last we saw of him.”

Mellis continued, “They spent Friday night at the boy’s house. Saturday morning Pat called his parents up and asked if he could stay another night. His parents said no. ‘Come on , we’ll pick you up.’ Pat’s sister even told him, ‘hey come and you’ll go to the Ever Green Speedway races with us Saturday night and Pat said, ‘okay, I’ll do it.’

Pat’s parents were fairly new to the area and didn’t know exactly where Pat was staying so they planned to meet at a Safeway less than a mile away.

“He said, ‘okay’ so we hung up the phone- he said goodbye to that family and right out the door,” Cress said.

This was at 12:30pm on a sunny, Saturday afternoon.

Cress recalled,  “We got there about 5-10 minutes to one. It wasn’t really far from home so.. no Patrick. We waited ‘til about 1:30pm- no Patrick. I think it was between 1.30pm and 1.45pm that my wife called home and talked to Kim and she said, ‘Yea, he called a little while ago and I told him you were on the way to pick him up and he said something to the  tune of, ‘okay sis, love you bye.’ That was the last we heard from him.”

Eighteen days later and about 500 yards away- a worker on a new Apartment complex made a gruesome discovery.

Detective Mellis said, “The construction worker was fixing one of those ditches and he discovered the body of a young boy right there in the middle of the pond.” That boy was later identified as 13-year old Pat Cress. Mellis continued, “The cause of death was blunt force injury to his head. It looked like he sustained a single, devastating blow to his head.”

Police interviewed several students and friends of Pat. To the surprise of investigators, they were notified about information being spread at a party the week before Pat’s body was found.

“It was at that party that a rumor was heard. That rumor was Pat Cress is dead, Pat Cress is in water and Pat Cress had his head bashed in” Mellis said. “Detectives tried to trace the source of that rumor, interviewed as many teenagers as they could, but at the time, they hit a wall and never got to the source of those rumors.”

Dick Cress said, “There are several people high on my suspect list,but most of  those people that we consider a danger are dead.” Mellis agreed, “We don’t have a specific person of interest at this time, what we have is a lot of deceased people that I would have loved to talk to, but they died from either suicide, traffic accidents or in the case of one –somebody who was so devastated in a traffic accident that he’s been in a coma for almost 20 years.”

Now police and family are hoping just one person will come forward and give them the final piece to the puzzle. Mellis pleaded with the public to come forward with what they know,“I think this case can be solved by one phone call. By one person telling us what they knew about that day in April 1983.”

Officers released surveillance video that shows the man at the counter for several minutes holding the $6,000 ring, then bolting out of the door.

Detectives describe the man as white and in his 20s.

No one was hurt during the robbery and nothing was taken.  However, the suspect wearing a fake beard and grey hat with earflaps got away.

Police say he’s white or Hispanic, between 5’10″ and 6’0′, heavy set, and somewhat muscular.

Officers said he was previously in a dating relationship, and the woman decided to leave town to get away from him.  When Backman tried to reach the woman her mom said that she was no longer in the area.  Backman told her that he would “scour the earth” for his girlfriend and when he found her would “bury her so far down none of you are ever going to find her.”

A witness told police she overhead a phone call, and heard Backman state that he was going to get a gun and use it on anyone who got between him and  his girlfriend.  About a month prior, the witness heard Backman say he will kill the woman if she ever left.

Backman is a heavy meth user and known to carry guns.  He is extremely dangerous to law enforcement and the community.

WANTED IN KING COUNTY:  

Jones has a criminal history full of assault, robbery and drugs.  He was last busted for ignoring a no-contact order with his ex-girlfriend after taking off with her car.

After he called her and threatened to destroy the car, he finally returned it several days later.  Police say he walked into the woman’s home, and became pushy and aggressive.   She was able to leave the house and park the car at a relative’s home to hide it from him.  Jones showed up at her house the very next day and threatened her because he wasn’t able to obtain property he had left in the car.

Officers said that Jones is especially dangerous because of his love for firearms.  Officers said they also arrested him after he went to an apartment to buy a gun.

“He shoots himself in the hand and the bullet travels through the wall to the neighbor’s apartment, barely missing the neighbor,” said Officer Christina Lacy with the Department of Corrections.  “Officers found two rifles and a loaded pistol in a storage closet at the apartment.  They also discovered a trail of blood leading outside the front door.  This evidence eventually led them to arrest Jones,” she added.

It’s believed that Jones is running from the law with his wife Shavon McCray, also known as Shavon Jones, who has a warrant out of Nevada for escape.  Police say she has a record of identity theft, scamming and robbing people of their money to pay for upscale apartments and beautiful things for herself.

According to Detectives, Oliver jumps from bank to bank and opens checking accounts with small amounts of money.  Then goes on spending sprees.

“There are so many banks and so many checks out there,” Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer said.  “She intentionally put a minimal amount in the account to get the check book.  Went out and wrote bad checks until the banks caught on to her.  But, she still has thousands and thousands of dollars in bad checks.  She’s probably out with some checks right now making her living.  So don’t take a check from her.  If you know where she is, let’s get her in custody to make her pay for the thousands of dollars she’s already taken from other people,” he continued.

FUGITIVE CAPTURED May 14, 2013 –
The Department of Corrections says Albert Conner was arrested at a hospital Tuesday. Officers say he tried stealing a woman’s purse who was sleeping in the lobby. The woman woke up, and officers say Conner took off. A Washington State Trooper working at the hospital, and hospital security chased Conner and were able to catch him. Seattle police joined in to get statements from the victim and witnesses.

FUGITIVE WANTED BY DOC IN KING COUNTY Jan. 18, 2013 –
This guy’s had a protection order slapped against him by his own mother.

And, cops say the fact he walks hunched over with a limp, could have you easily spotting him on the street.

Albert Conner is a high-violent offender who’s missing from the Department of Corrections in King County. Officers say he’s heavily addicted to crack-cocaine, and when he’s high — becomes extremely violent.

And, as for that protection his mom needed from him — a vulnerable elderly woman — it’s because she suspected he was stealing her checks and forging them.
