Fundraising ‘fugitives’ from across the state tried all summer long – and all for a great cause — Special Olympics Washington.
Mary Do with Special Olympics Washington gave everyone a message of thanks:
“Dear Run from the Cops 5K Participants and Volunteers,
On behalf of Special Olympics Washington, thank you for participating in the first Run from the Cops 5K night time run in Puyallup! We hope you had as much fun as we did running from the cops and raising funds and awareness for our local Special Olympics programs. Through your generosity and support, the event raised $7,500 for local athletes!”
Check out all the photos below from the Puyallup event. More photos and mug shots will be posted to the Special Olympics Washington Facebook page this week! The event was started up by Kennewick police Sgt. Randy Maynard, who was definitely surprised at just who showed up to run. “You know, the ‘Run From the Cops’ was just a tagline. It’s not literal by any sense. But what we found, and we didn’t advertise this, we didn’t ask people for it, but we found as people started arriving for the run last year, they’re showing up in ‘bad guy’ themed costumes. They were all in good taste, and everybody had a lot of fun with them. I think it really spun the excitement and the interest in the event. People really got behind it!”
So much support that the event grew to four runs this year, spanning both sides of the state:
- Kennewick July 13
- Renton August 24
- Mukilteo September 13
- Puyallup September 28
