Captured: D’Vontaveous Hoston, felon paid $42K by city after being kicked by officer

UPDATE: Federal Way police say D’Vontaveous Hoston was captured by The U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force in Seattle. Following surveillance, Marshals confirmed his identification, and took him into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Federal Way Police Department for questioning, then booked at the SCORE Jail in Des Moines.

ORIGINAL CASE (10/30/12)

The convicted felon at the forefront of a highly publicized assault case, where he was paid $42,000 by the city of Seattle after surveillance video at a store showed him being kicked by a Seattle police officer, now has a $50,000 nationwide extraditable warrant out for his arrest.

Federal Way police say D’Vontaveous Hoston came armed with a gun to his girlfriend’s apartment in Federal Way earlier this month, got into an argument with someone else there, and fired off a shot that nearly hit a 1-year-old child in a bedroom. Detectives says the pistol was identified as a “rusty chrome .38 caliber” and was not recovered by officers.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Hoston, who is considered ‘armed and dangerous’, and has a nationwide extraditable felony warrant in King County for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Reckless Endangerment. The 19-year-old is 5’08” and weighs 156 lbs.

Last November, the city of Seattle dismissed a misdemeanor assault charge against Seattle police officer James J. Lee for the incident during the 2010 arrest.

The City of Seattle agreed to pay Hoston $42,000, but did not make an admission of liability. Hoston had filed a federal lawsuit alleging Lee had violated his civil rights. As part of the settlement, that lawsuit was dismissed.

Hoston recently served time after he got busted in downtown Seattle with a loaded handgun hidden in his waistband.

He’s also been convicted of selling drugs.
